I have filed a suit against Barrow's inauguration, says Jammeh

Sallah spoke after Nigeria's president led talks Friday with Gambia's President Yahya Jammeh and President-elect Adama Barrow in Gambia as part of mediation efforts led by the West African regional bloc ECOWAS.

Sirleaf said that "we are going to work on this right away" and encouraged Jammeh to confirm that he wanted peace and would follow the constitution. "The person declared elected should take and assume office".

The African Union said Friday that as of January 19, it will cease to recognize Jammeh as president.

The president has few allies and has faced nearly universal condemnation for clinging to his post, though Nigerian House of Representatives said Thursday the country should consider offering him asylum.

Following the refusal of Jammeh to step down and hand over power to Barrow, the last visit of the Heads of state from ECOWAS was the last straw that broke the camel's back.

West African army chiefs met in Abuja, Nigeria at the weekend in preparation for a possible military intervention in The Gambia.

Jammeh initially conceded defeat to opposition leader Adama Barrow following the December 1 poll but later changed his mind, drawing widespread condemnation and the threat of a military intervention by regional neighbours.

Dairy Queen Location Shut Down After Racist Rant
Crichton also told the officer he was "fed up with black people" and continued to freely use the slur in the conversation. The owner of a Dairy Queen in IL has lost his franchise agreement after comments he reportedly made to a customer.

But President Jammeh whose mandate ends on Wednesday filed an injunction to the Supreme Court asking it to block his inauguration pending the outcome of an election petition he filed at the Supreme Court against the result.

He said: "I request for an injunction to restrain Adama Barrow from being sworn in and to stop the Chief Judge or any other party from swearing him in".

Mr Jammeh criticised the AU's decision in his Sunday address, saying it had not been approved by member states.

But the court is unable to hold a hearing until May - as most of the judges come from neighbouring countries - and Jammeh has said he is going nowhere until then.

Jammeh has served as Gambia's leader for 22 years since coming into power through a military coup in 1994.

Jammeh might be wary of a Nigerian promise of safe haven.
