Many are inspired by Trump's campaign rhetoric that they feel will undermine issues relevant to women; policies of inclusion, reproductive rights, voting rights, free press, affordable health care, racial and gender equality, equal pay and higher minimum wage are just some of the issues that have galvanized women.

The idea for the march began with a Facebook page created by USA organizers in the hours after Trump beat Democrat leader Hillary Clinton to win the White House. The organizers did what more people would like government to do, they listened, adjusted and included.

The Women's March on Washington is expected to be one of the largest demonstrations linked to the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump, with as many as 200,000 people expected to show up at the intersection of Independence Avenue and Third Street SW in downtown Washington on the morning of January 21. Thus far we see a man who will be President make pronouncements in 144 characters using twitter.

Johnson said she voted for Clinton and was disappointed at Trump's victory.

Desiree Aragon, who identifies herself as a woman of Spanish heritage, had not heard of the march, but expressed no surprise it was happening.

This event it still in the planning stages and not everything is confirmed, but organizers say they're planning for about 200,000 people. Other busloads of marchers will depart from Nashville, Chattanooga and Kingsport.

More than 2,500 women are expected to gather to stand up for women's rights and civil liberties on Saturday outside the state's Capitol in Augusta. "I wouldn't be a part of it if I didn't think it would make an impact".

"There's certainly an awareness that we are building something, but it's a grassroots movement so it will have to be defined by the people in the movement themselves", she said. "Women acting as catalysts, feeling newly vulnerable in this environment, whether it's under a Trump administration in the U.S. or under the electoral power of populist candidates across Europe".

"All of a sudden, these young girls who have been getting messages that they can do anything, suddenly we've gone back 50 years to where you're a piece of meat", Peterson said. Women were jeered, tripped, shoved and spat upon, and police did little to assist them or quell the unrest.

Sample: "When I'm there I might change my mind and be spontaneous to be there to witness history". The morning after the election she walked into her 13-year-old daughter's bedroom and found her on the floor, sobbing. "I mean, we're here for women's rights, we're for equality, we're here for gun control", said Sarah Hall Philips of Columbus.

"I'm not in any way angry", she said.

Although WMW organizers published a four-page guide that emphasizes the intersectionality of all the various issues that the march will address, many white women members have become salty and irritable at the attention given to women from marginalized communities.

Branchburg resident Elizabeth Meyer organized the Trenton event and says that she did so to oppose many aspects of Trump's administration.

But the election was a wake-up call, she said, and one that has been life changing.
