  • President Trump Detroit’s Big 3 Automakers Talk 'Renaissance' In U.S. Manufacturing

Trump thanked his family for their support in a tweet on the White House account.

Trump began the meeting by speaking about how he wanted more auto plants in America. On Tuesday morning, January 24th, he spoke directly to the CEOs of General Motors, Ford and Fiat Chrysler at a meeting.

"As the USA manufacturing base increases its competitiveness, we are able to further increase our investment, resulting in more jobs for America and better results for our owners", General Motors chairwoman and CEO Mary Barra reportedly said. FCA is controlled by Italian automaker Fiat and incorporated in The Netherlands.

The CEOs stayed at the meeting about an hour.

"General Motors manufacturers the Chevrolet Cruze sedan in Lordstown, Ohio", a General Motors spokesman said in a statement at the time.

"I think as an industry, we're excited about working together with the president and his administration on tax policies, on regulation and on trade to create a renaissance on American manufacturing", Ford's Mark Fields said. He has since proposed 35 per cent tariffs on vehicles imported from Mexico into the U.S.

Safe Climate Campaign Director Daniel Becker said job creation doesn't need to come at the expense of regulations that have a positive impact on the environment. It's a pattern of auto companies making routine jobs announcements to head off criticism from Trump, who made keeping USA factory jobs a key element of his campaign.

In the order, he said the directive was a stopgap way to control the growth of government until his budget director recommends a long-term plan to significantly reduce the federal workforce through attrition.

While automakers are adding U.S.jobs, they are also cutting USA production of small cars.

USA automakers have been reluctant to open new US auto plants in recent years, but they have expanded some operations at existing plants.

Last week, GM confirmed it would invest an additional $1 billion in its US factories this year and would move some parts production from Mexico to the USA that was previously handled by a supplier.

Between them, foreign automakers employ tens of thousands of workers at their USA facilities.

GM, Ford and Fiat Chrysler have all said in response to prodding by Trump that they plan to add new jobs and investments in the United States.

BMW and VW have about 12,000 workers between their plants in Spartanburg, South Carolina, and Chattanooga, Tennessee.

The executives also discussed autonomous and electric vehicles, according to the report.

"We want regulations, but we want real regulations", he says, calling some laws on the books insane.

They have invested more than $40bn in United States plants during that period.

"They're using Trump as a marketing channel", says Jonah Berger, a marketing professor at the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School. Those U.S. job gains exceed each company's total employment at their Mexican plants.

President Donald Trump held a meeting with leaders from the automotive industry Tuesday at the White House, where he stressed the importance of bringing manufacturing back to the United States.

"No matter how many incentives you offer automakers or [whether you] give them tax breaks, you still have the labor issue to deal with,"said Michael Harley, an executive analyst at Kelley Blue Book".

Earlier Jan. 17, Hyundai said it will significantly increase its investment in the USA while Trump is president and is considering building a new US factory.
