  • Madeleine Albright ready to “register as Muslim” in response to Trump executive orders

In response, Albright tweeted: "I was raised Catholic, became Episcopalian, and found out later my family was Jewish".

"Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me".

Albright, the first woman to have become the USA secretary of state, was born in Prague in 1937 but left with her parents after the Nazi occupation.

They both declared publicly on Twitter on Wednesday that they "stand ready" to register in defiance of the new president if he takes executive action that affects immigrants traveling to the U.S. It's a push back against Trump's support of a Muslim registry on the campaign trail. I stand ready to register as Muslim in #solidarity, ' Albright tweeted.

Albright, who served under President Bill Clinton, didn't elaborate on where or how she would register as a Muslim.

He also plans to suspend issuing visas for people from seven predominantly Muslim countries - Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria or Yemen for at least 30 days, according to the draft.

In a tweet Tuesday, Trump said: "Big day planned on NATIONAL SECURITY tomorrow".

At the Women's Global March last weekend, Albright declared: "If you force Muslims to register, we will all register as Muslims".

In an interview with the Washington Post in 1997, Albright said her parents, who converted to Catholicism, never talked about their Jewish background.

Albright acknowledged on a Thursday press call, organized by refugee groups, that a registry of Muslims in the USA was not part of the proposed executive order.

Other human rights activists have pledged to fight Trump's so-called Muslim ban by standing in solidarity with Muslims.
