Fresh details on the DEADLY al shabaab attack on KDF

Al-Shabaab attacked a Kenyan army base in southern Somalia yesterday, claiming it killed no fewer than 51 soldiers in the process. It was not possible to confirm immediately whether either side's account was accurate.
"We are pursuing the Kenyan soldiers who ran away into the woods", Sheikh Abdiasis Abu Musab, al-Shabab's military operation spokesman, told Reuters news agency about the attack near the Kenyan border.
The militant Islamist group, affiliated with al-Qaida, announced that it captured the camp in Kolbiyow, near the Kenya-Somalia border, killed more than 50 soldiers and seized military vehicles and weapons in a dawn attack.
The attack took place in Lower Juba region of the country.
The Kolbiyow raid is the second major attack this week in Somalia, coming three days after 28 people were killed when Shabaab bombers and fighters attacked a hotel in the capital.
Somalia, which has been in varying states of violent chaos since a longtime dictator was overthrown in 1991, is the site of a clandestine American-backed war involving Special Operations troops, airstrikes, private contractors and African allies.
Al-Shabab said it lost fighters but did not give numbers.
