Washington state suing Trump over immigration order

The move makes Washington the first state to announce a legal action against the Trump administration over one of its policies.

Protests followed confusion and chaos at airports nationwide, as federal agents began to enforce President Trump's executive order signed Friday that suspends immigration for citizens of the seven countries for 90 days, as well as suspends the USA refugee program for 120 days and indefinitely for Syrian Refugees.

In his closing remarks, Governor Inslee expressed concerns over how the order will affect members of the Washington National Guard now serving in the Middle East.

Ferguson was one of 16 state attorneys general who released a statement on January 28 calling Trump's immigration action "un-American and unlawful".

All U.S. green card holders, who are legal permanent U.S. residents, were included in Trump's executive action and were required to undergo additional screening before re-entering the country, administration officials said on Saturday.

A protester demonstrates on January 28 against President Donald Trump's travel ban barring citizens of seven predominantly Muslim nations entry into the U.S.at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport in Fort Worth, Texas.

"We as a city will stand with immigrants and refugees", said Murray, who has vowed to maintain Seattle's status as a sanctuary city for immigrants despite a Trump threat to withhold federal funds.

Attorney General Bob Ferguson said his team has worked all weekend to prepare a lawsuit that will be filed Monday afternoon in federal court.

Ferguson's complaint asks the United States District Court for the Western District of Washington to declare key provisions of the executive order unconstitutional and illegal.

"Because I love this country, I am horrified by its blemishes, and this immigrant ban is a blemish", said Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who won best comedy TV actress for her portrayal of U.S. President Selina Meyer on HBO's political satire "Veep". "Either you're abiding by the Constitution or you are not".

Wawrinka left the court for medical treatment before the third set began, returning with a bandage below his right knee. An hour later, Serena ensured had there'd be a ninth all-Williams Grand Slam final - and first in Australia since 2003.

The states could decide not to file lawsuits, and it was unclear how many states would ultimately sign on for such an effort.

The Department of Homeland Security said it would comply with judicial orders but that Trump's immigration restrictions remained in effect.

"President Trump may have his alternative facts, but alternative facts do not work in a courtroom", Inslee said. "The clear intent of this executive order is to discriminate against one faith amongst all God's children".

"We've seen what can happen when our nation succumbs to fear", Gov. Inslee said.

Inslee said he learned the hard way over the years "you do not back down to bullies".

Attorneys for the state said their legal argument claims both constitutional and statutory violations.

A federal judge in NY on Saturday night granted an emergency stay temporarily halting the removal of people who, though with previously approved refugee applications or with valid visas, had been detained following Trump's order. Expedia CEO Dara Khosrowshahi, himself an Iranian immigrant to the US, more strongly objected to the executive order in an email circulated to his company's staff on Sunday.

Firebrand BJP leader Yogi Adityanth applauded US President Donald Trump's controversial immigration order that bans travellers from seven Muslim-majority countries and stressed the need for such action in India to contain terrorism.

In addition to the Sea-Tac protest, thousands of people are attending an "emergency rally" Sunday night at Westlake Park in response to President Donald Trump's executive order on immigration.

Washington state, through Ferguson, are not the only entities showing their displeasure with the President's order, as large protest have been spurned all over the country.
