Ivanka Trump and her husband, Jared Kushner, reportedly intervened to ensure President Donald Trump would not go forward with an executive order that would expand legal exemptions based on religious beliefs and limit protections for LGBTQ people, Politico reports.

Progressive groups have expressed concern that Trump could overturn protections and rights gained by the LGBT community under the Obama administration.

"There are some in Trump's family that have some views on these things", a person close to the discussions said. "That's where the decision is ultimately being made". Without specifically mentioning the LGBT protections, Trump did say during the campaign that he would undo all of President Obama's executive orders.

After reports of the executive order draft surfaced, the White House suggested that the draft was one of around 200 executive orders that never came close to even hitting Trump's desk.

Amid rumors the president was preparing to roll back LGBTQ rights with an executive order on "religious freedom", the White House released a statement Tuesday emphasizing Trump's commitment to protect LGBTQ employees employed with federal contractors.

After the confirmation that he was leaving the Premier League club, this is what Payet posted on his personal Twitter account . Payet joins Patrice Evra, the veteran French defender who arrived at Marseille last week on a free transfer from Juventus.

Kushner - a 36-year-old Orthodox Jew who is married to Trump's daughter Ivanka - serves as a senior adviser to the president.

It's unclear whether there is any kind of broader "religious freedom" executive order still coming.

The new order, which was leaked earlier this week, would have also rolled back LGBT and women's rights when it came to marriage equality, abortion, contraception and transgender rights.

"I think they're going to address the conflict that exists now, which would preclude religious organizations from contracting with the federal government", Family Research Council CEO Tony Perkins told Politico. "I don't know whether the timing and the chronology works out exactly that way, but I do think that he will be a source of trying to be a check on Donald Trump".

The law would have tied in well with the beliefs of Vice President Mike Pence who, as governor of in, passed the notoriously anti-LGBT Religious Freedom Restoration Act in 2015 - to fierce global condemnation.
