Did President Donald Trump's executive order on immigration ban Muslims from the country on the basis of their religion?

Noting that several federal courts had already blocked parts of Trump's order, the attorneys general said they would "use all of the tools of our offices to fight this unconstitutional order and preserve our nation's national security and core values".

The order indeed does not explicitly ban Muslims, something Jonathan Turley, a law professor at George Washington University, noted in defense of the order. The visa waiver program allows citizens from 38 countries to enter the United States without a visa for up to 90 days.

President Donald Trump on Saturday ordered "extreme vetting" of people entering the U.S. from certain Muslim-majority countries and banned the entry of Syrian refugees until further notice, as part of new measures to "keep radical Islamic terrorists" out of America.

About 300 protesters gathered at Los Angeles International Airport to demonstrate solidarity with Muslim immigrants and refugees detained under the ban.

Leaders react to the president's order to ban people from 7 Muslim-majority countries. Only after a huge public outcry and emergency court hearings did the administration on Sunday relax the restrictions by announcing they would not apply to those with green cards granting them permanent USA residency.

She said: "Donald Trump has been president for only a few days and look at what he is doing". A federal judge blocked part of the ban and ordered authorities to stop deporting refugees and other travelers stuck at USA airports.

"The Middle East is a region of extraordinary ethnic and religious diversity", said Chris Boian, the senior communications officer of the U.N. Refugee Agency, UNHCR. The seven countries named in the Executive Order are the same countries previously identified by the Obama administration as sources of terror, according to Trump. But in a statement Sunday, tweets Monday and comments Tuesday, Trump and others misstated the facts or offered contradictory statements multiple times.

"Immigration policy in the United States is a matter for the government of the United States, just the same as immigration policy for this country should be set by our government", the statement said.

Trump Signs 'New Vetting Measures' to Guard Against Terror

John McCain (R-AZ) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) released a joint statement condemning the executive order Trump signed Friday saying that it "was not properly vetted" based on confusion at airports across the country.

All Syrians are banned from entering the United States indefinitely.

Titled "Protection of the Nation From Foreign Terrorist Entry Into the United States", it bars citizens of Iran, Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Somalia, Sudan and Libya for 90 days.

Visa and green card holders already in the USA will be allowed to stay.

There's an exemption for immigrants and legal permanent residents whose entry is in the USA national interest.

What happened to travelers as the order took effect? .

As part of its reaction to the new administration's approach on immigration, Britain will make so-called "representations" to the US government to protect the rights of British citizens looking to enter the Unites States, the statement added.

All together these are unacceptable mistakes, in keeping with the amateurish behavior seen by the Trump administration in its first week in office, have gone a long way to overshadow an executive order that is not out of line with longstanding US policy.
