Burgess: Are Super Bowl vehicle ads even worth it?

Anheuser-Busch InBev on Wednesday released a 60-second Super Bowl commercial focused on the company's founder, German immigrant Adolphus Busch.

Though Budweiser stated that the commercial celebrated the American Dream and was not a comment on the current political climate, the ad was released days after Trump, 70, signed an executive order temporarily banning refugees and travelers from seven Muslim-majority countries, including Iran and Iraq.

That massive audience, which totaled almost 112 million viewers previous year, makes the Super Bowl a prime spot for advertisers, who are paying 21st Century Fox Inc as much as $5 million for a 30-second spot.

Mercedes is now in the No. 3 spot, according to what ISpot.tv dubs "share of voice". The Super Bowl is also a battleground for advertisers as they unveil new campaigns and fight for exposure during the most-watched TV event of the year in the US.

This ad set the bar for elaborate, plot-driven commercials kept secret until the game.

Busch then goes through a series of hardships, including having to escape a burning riverboat, in his quest to settle in St Louis to begin following his dream in brewing beer.

The Super Bowl at the NRG Stadium in Houston between the New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcons airs Sunday on Fox. In 2015, Volvo's Greatest Interception campaign rewarded fans who tweeted about the company whenever another vehicle brand's ad was shown.

In a statement, Anheuser-Busch's senior director of value brands, Chelsea Phillips, told AdAge, "The goal for our first-ever Super Bowl commercial was to create a spot that was unmistakably Busch".

Busch is going to back to their roots for their Super Bowl debut.

The NFL wants to keep politics out of the Super Bowl - Lady Gaga was reportedly informed that she can't mention Trump during her halftime show - and a league spokesperson said, "We review spots to ensure they do not violate our advertising policies". Its Skittles brand also has an ad spot this year.

"These are the people who bring us Clydesdales and talking frogs and lab puppies and 'wazzup.' They really don't do political", Davis told The Morning Edition host Craig Norris Friday. For the companies buying the ads, it's a role of the dice that requires a lot of things to go right for the investment to be worth it. The media, including myself, write about them.

Website hosting company Squarespace shows an intense John Malkovich berating the owner of johnmalkovich.com domain name. Sales, profits, and brand perceptions will improve significantly, propelled by the Super Bowl's enormous reach and power to command consumer attention.
