February 8, 9:20 a.m.: A winter storm warning is now in effect for the eastern end of Long Island, starting late Wednesday night into Thursday morning.

As per reports, at least a foot of snow was recorded in the states of New York, Maine, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire. Vehicles must be removed from the roads by then or face ticketing.

Hundreds of school districts have canceled school and non-essential state workers have been told to stay home.

In North Jersey, heavy snow was falling at Sussex County Airport at 5 a.m., and light snow was reported in Morristown, Somerville, Newark and Teterboro.

The United Nations also announced that "due to inclement weather" its NY headquarters would be closed, while public schools also closed in the city, as well as in Boston and Philadelphia.

Patton Township announced that a snow emergency will be in effect as of 12:01 a.m. Thursday and parking on the street will be prohibited for as long as the emergency is in effect.

In New Jersey, a jackknifed tractor trailer closed lanes near Bedminster, about 72km west of New York City.

"This is kind of unusual because nothing happened", Kenney said before thanking the city crews and employees who were out preparing for the anticipated storm. Subway service in NY is still as functional as it ever is, though the Long Island and Metro-North Railroads experiencing delays.

The storm is so rapidly intensifying with winds gusting to 45 miles per hour that it is "making air travel hard, if not impossible", the Capital Weather Gang reported.
