"Two soldiers nearly died to injuries before they could be taken for treatment, three jawans were airlifted to Army's 92 base hospital and their condition was stated much stable.The encounter started after militants hiding in a house opened fire", the police control room in Kulgam said.

The violence began when security forces entered a village in the southern Kulgam district overnight on Saturday in pursuit of suspected militants. An Army official said, "Different unconfirmed figures on casualties of security forces and terrorists are doing rounds".

LeT chief in the state, Mehmood Shah, also released a statement saying: "Forces got frustrated by the courage shown by the militants and with the result, they opened fire on the innocent people killing two civilians and injuring dozens". The students held demonstrations for several minutes and raised pro-freedom slogans.

Four militants have killed during the gunbattle while two army jawans have martyred. "Two of our soldiers killed while three are wounded", Indian military spokesperson told media. "We have referred at least 21 wounded youth to district hospital Anantnag", chief medical officer of Kulgam, Dr Shafi said, adding that majority were out of danger.

The unrest in the Valley continued with massive protests and mass demonstration in which about a hundred people were killed and more than 12,000 injured. These are still confirmed numbers and the real causalities will be known when the encounter ends. While most of the Valley remained peaceful, clashes took place on Monday between stone-pelters and security forces in Baramulla district and in Srinagar.
