Heads Up! Drones Will Fly People Around Dubai This Summer

16 February, 2017, 01:15 | Author: Abraham Jackson

Dubai has tested a Chinese prototype of a self-driving hover-taxi, its transport authority said on Monday, with the aim of introducing the aerial vehicle in the emirate by July.

"This is not only a model", al-Tayer said.

Awesome leap forward in the transport world, and frankly, impressive.

According to the company's website, Ehang 184 AAV is the safest, smartest and eco-friendly low altitude autonomous aerial vehicle, aiming on providing medium-short distance communication and transportation solution.

The drone can carry a single passenger weighing up to 220 pounds plus a small suitcase. It carries only one passenger, who selects a destination on a touch-screen pad in front of the seat and the drone flies there automatically.

Caster Semenya will have to wait for unexpected Olympic gold
Speaking shortly after the Wada report was released, Semenya said earning the gold in this way would nearly be an empty victory. The decision sees Semenya add a second Olympic title to her name having emerged victorious in the 800m in Rio previous year .

The EHang 184 can fly about 50 kilometers (31 miles) on a single charge, hitting top speeds of up to 160 kph (100 mph). He did not elaborate.

The Road and Transportation Agency later said the craft was controlled through 4G mobile internet. The agency did not immediately respond to further questions from The Associated Press.

With its jet-propelled firefighters, million-dollar drone races and plans for its very own Hyperloop, Dubai ain't a bad place to see advanced technologies in action. EHang is working with authorities in Nevada with the potential of being cleared by the FAA to operate in the US. The drones will be remotely monitored by Dubai officials. Dubai's ruler - Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum - has previously stated an ambition that 25 per cent of all journeys made in Dubai will be driverless by 2030.

The drone was unveiled in a flight over Dubai's Burj Al Arab, the sail-shaped luxury hotel that is the fourth-tallest hotel in the world, the AP reported.

You have left for this month.
