  • U.S. Navy guided-missile destroyer USS Porter sails in the Bosphorus on its way to the Mediterranean Sea in Istanbul Turkey February 11

The US Defense Department had earlier claimed that several Russian jets buzzed a US Navy ship three times on February 10 - the last day of a ten-day maritime drill by North Atlantic Treaty Organisation in the Black Sea near Russia.

No interactions between Russian military planes and a United States guided missile destroyer took place in the Black Sea last Friday, the Russian Defense Ministry's official spokesman, Maj.

Two Sukhoi Su-24 Fencer fighters made low-altitude, high-speed passes on the destroyer, an Ilyushin Il-38 surveillance aircraft also made a low pass and a separate Fencer made a low altitude pass on the ship, he said.

The destroyer was part of the 10-day Romanian-led multinational Sea Shield 2017 exercise.

Two Russian warplanes flew dangerously close to a U.S. P-8A maritime patrol aircraft operating in the Black Sea in September.

"All of our flights were conducted and are being conducted over the neutral waters of the Black Sea in accordance with worldwide rules and safety requirements".

The USS Porter took part in Sea Shield, an annual global military exercise, last week. Such incidents are considered as unsafe and unprofessional. "Such incidents are concerning because they can result in accidents or miscalculation", the spokesman added.

In 2016, asked about a Russian fighter jet barrel-rolling next to a USA ship, Donald Trump suggested the Navy has "gotta shoot" if Vladimir Putin ignored calls to stop.

"These actions threaten our interests, our security", Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for Russian President Vladimir Putin said earlier this month. "Especially as it concerns a third party building up its military presence near our borders". Finally, a different Su-24 buzzed the ship, he said.

Four armed Russian fighter planes and two unarmed fighter planes buzzed the USS Porter, a guided missile destroyer, on February 10, the official told NBC News.

Some 2,800 seamen from Bulgaria, Canada, Greece, Romania, Spain, Turkey, Ukraine and the USA practiced methods of defending against undersea, air and overland attacks.
