Russian spy ship spotted off the coast of Groton, CT

The ship, which according to a Fox News report is the SSV-175 Viktor Leonov, remained in global waters while sailing south of Long Island, according to U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Jonathan Cinquegrana.

The U.S.is downplaying the presence of a Russian intelligence ship off the coast of CT, despite two other recent incidents with Russia that have raised security concerns.

It's not unusual for Russian ships to be spotted near King's Bay, Georgia, the site of another east coast sub base, but Courtney said the CT visit appears to be an escalation.

Since the Russian vessel has not entered US territory, which extends 12 miles into the ocean from the coast, officials have not taken action against it.

"We are aware of the vessel's presence", said Lt. Col. Valerie Henderson, a Defense Department spokeswoman.

Corden won't sing as Grammy host
The Grammys are unlike any other award show in that it celebrates the work of its nominees more than it likes to reward them. I was probably watching in 1971 when "Bridge Over Troubled Water" won Best Song, Record and Album with almost a clean sweep.

The vessel was 70 miles off the coast of DE on Tuesday, heading north at 10 knots, an official told Fox News on condition of anonymity. -Russian relations, federal lawmakers in CT and on the East End are sounding an alarm about the ship's proximity to USA military installations. But Connecticut's members of Congress aren't happy about it.

"Russia is acting like it has a permission slip to expand influence, test limits of reach", tweeted Sen.

"Presence of Russian spy ship has to be regarded very seriously b/c Russia is an increasingly aggressive adversary", tweeted Connecticut Senator Richard Blumenthal Wednesday afternoon. The Russian spy ship was last seen off the East Coast of the US about two years ago, spending time near another USA submarine base in Kings Bay, Ga.

Ships like the Viktor Leonov also appear quite frequently on the West Coast, where they follow around American exercises and show up in the South China Sea, Petersen said, adding that Chinese ships do the same. Certainly, having a Russian spy ship off the northeastern shores of the United States may be interesting and something to keep an eye on, but it's not as if the Russians sailed the Northern Fleet across the Atlantic to take up station off Washington, D.C. The ship's actual intelligence gathering capabilities are also questionable. "I don't talk about a military response", said Trump, who then reiterated campaign points that he doesn't make a practice of announcing his intentions militarily.

I'm sure the Russian ship wasn't coming to see us, but was just in the neighborhood going to meet some friends when it was spotted. "These kinds of ships - and we do the same thing - go all over the place to stay reasonably accustomed to the waters". It did not disclose the location, other than to say the ship was off the East Coast. On Friday, a USA missile destroyer was stationed in the Black Sea when four Russian aircraft buzzed by it at an "unsafe" distance, Pentagon officials said. A similar incident occurred in April of 2016 and the Obama administration's response was muted. Professor Costigliola says our ship was floating just off the coast of Russian Federation.
