  • Vehicles can be seen at the scene of the accident and homicide early Saturday morning on W. Fuqua at S. Sam Houston Parkway

Police say an 8-year-old girl has been fatally shot after the vehicle she was in was involved in a auto crash in Houston.

Latoyia Thomas was coming home around 2 a.m. after getting her hair braided when she collided with another vehicle. The child was traveling with her mother, Toyia Thomas, and police believe they were just bystanders.

"I don't know who it was and I don't know why she was shooting", Thomas said.

'The light was green, and as soon as I got to the light it turned yellow - I couldn't stop, ' Thomas said. Instead of offering any help, the woman allegedly started firing a gun at her vehicle. Thomas said the woman began firing at her and her daughter.

"I pulled her out of the vehicle..." She died at a hospital.

"She kept trying to hang on", Thomas said. "I thought she was still asleep".

Officials said a white Pontiac Grand Prix and a dark four-door sedan were speeding down West Fuqua Street. Thomas believes somebody knows who the murderer is, possibly the person in the vehicle she crashed into.

It was unclear if the Pontiac's driver and the shooter were the same person.

That's when Thomas noticed the blood on her jacket.

Police said they are searching for the dark four-door sedan and the driver of the Pontiac. "Stay with me. Stay with me", Thomas told KTRK.

The Houston police do not have any suspects in custody. Anyone with information regarding the incident is encouraged to contact the HPD Homicide Division directly by calling 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers by calling 713-222-TIPS.

Thomas hopes for justice for her daughter.
