The volatile Australian was unable to defend his Marseille crown as he lost to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 7-6, 2-6, 6-4 on Saturday, 25 February.

Victory in the final would mean a career first for Tsonga of back-to-back ATP triumphs and marks a stunning return to form for the 2016 US Open quarter-finalist.

"I've seen referees wait 5-6 seconds after the ball's gone out", Kyrgios said, according to news.com.au.

Tsonga improved to a 17-3 record on the season.

The crucial point of the tiebreaker was when Kyrgios missed a forehand long, Tsonga doing well to block the serve back into play and he led 4-2, which was extended to 6-3 and on the third time of asking, the second seed wrapped up the opening set.

Budapest pulls out of running to host 2024 Summer Olympics
They were aided by several political parties critical of right-wing strongman Orban. In Budapest, 56 percent of voters were against the bid.

"I wanted to show him I'd be there for each shot", said Tsonga, who will now climb to eighth in the ATP world rankings.

Pouille was never able to threaten Tsonga, who won all but six points on serve and did not face a break point in the contest.

World No. 4 Raonic broke Del Potro in the 11th game of the second set to serve for the match, but the big-serving 26-year-old was broken back, firing a forehand wide to give Del Potro a break point which the 2009 US Open victor converted with a backhand victor.

Since 2006, a Frenchman has now won the Marseille title seven times and in three of the last five years.
