BlackBerry 'KeyOne' launched at MWC 2017 for $549

The launch of KEYone smartphone brings to a close BlackBerry's in-house manufacturing and designing. To recall, Blackberry in September announced to end its design and production unit, and license the brand to partners. There's a fingerprint scanner built into the space bar, and with dragging your finger across the physical keys, you can scroll to new screens on your phone.

TCL scored new brand-licensing deal in December with BlackBerry Ltd., which now focuses on making the security software that was another key factor underpinning the Canadian company's phenomenal success in the pre-smartphone era.

Other standard features include a 4.5-inch 3:2 aspect ratio IPS LCD display boasting a resolution of 1620 x 1080, giving it a respectable pixel density of 434 pixels-per-inch.

Powering it is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 Octa-core chip, backed up with 3GB of RAM, and a big 3,505mAh battery.

Internal storage is capped at 32GB with expandable storage of up to 2TB.

On the optics front, the new offering from Blackberry sports a 12-megapixel rear camera with a Sony IMX378 sensor at the back along with a 8-megapixel front facing camera, with a wide-angle lens and a flash module for selfie and video calling purposes. It also comes with support for flick typing. The phone runs on Android Nougat and carries 3505 mAh battery.

Indeed, the KeyOne remains an enterprise play, but one BlackBerry hopes it will eventually appeal to consumers. Apart from that, BlackBerry is touting the security features it has embedded as always and calls it the "most secure Android phone". We've already seen the beginnings of this with the DTEK line, but the KeyOne looks like the last "BlackBerry" BlackBerry phone. The fingerprint sensor is located on the spacebar. And the device will come with a price tag of € 599, £ 499 and $549.

As for the availability of the device, BlackBerry has said it will be available across the globe starting from April.
