Firms Want to Build Border Wall

"We're going to build a wall, don't worry about it", Trump told a cheering crowd of his supporters. There are now 354 miles of pedestrian fencing and 300 miles of vehicle barriers, much of it built during President George W. Bush's second term.

Since U.S. Customs and Border Protection posted a preliminary notice last week that it would begin taking bids on the U.S. -Mexico border wall later this month, it has already received interest from nearly 200 engineering and construction companies, according to CityLab.

Since the earliest stages of his presidential campaign in 2015, Trump has vowed to build a wall along the US border with Mexico as a way to stop illegal immigration and drug trafficking. Trump has suggested $12 billion.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection said it will accept "concept papers" for the wall's design beginning next week and will choose the best ones by March 20. "An option for additional miles may be included in each contract award".

Zambrano was answering whether Cemex, one of the world's largest cement producers, would provide a cement estimate for the controversial barrier.

Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto has said his country will not pay for the wall.

For every Mexican peso provided by migrant workers, Mexico's federal, state and municipal governments contribute an additional peso in what's known as the "3×1" program.

Why only give aspiring wall builders five days to fine-tune and file their proposals? Just 44 percent of Americans say they approve of how Trump has handled his new job, while 48 percent say they disapprove. The good news? Because there is heightened interest, the wall will likely be built for less than originally estimated.
