Analyst says all 2017 iPhones to feature Lightning ports and fast charging

03 March, 2017, 03:11 | Author: Sam Montgomery

This would bring the same USB-C power delivery features without changing the physical connector from Lightning to USB-C.

Retaining the Lightning port also means that Apple gets to keep generating income from its lucrative MFi program.

You can make an argument for a straight USB-C connection on an iPhone or iPad - standardization across Apple's devices stands out, for instance.

As per the report, the new iPhone is expected to feature a curved OLED panel, a first for Apple and an edge-to-edge bezel less display.

BlackBerry 'KeyOne' launched at MWC 2017 for $549
We've already seen the beginnings of this with the DTEK line , but the KeyOne looks like the last " BlackBerry " BlackBerry phone. As for the availability of the device, BlackBerry has said it will be available across the globe starting from April.

Kuo said that Apple is planning to add fast charging technology to the new iPhones, which means we'll finally get a feature that's been available in various forms for nearly every Android smartphone on the market today.

"Apple Inc. has made a decision to adopt a flexible display for one model of the new iPhone coming out this year and has ordered sufficient components to enable mass production, people familiar with the matter said", reports the publication.

However, the next iPhone's "fast charging" will take place through Apple's proprietary Lightning connector port, according to the research, because Apple collects royalties from its accessory ecosystem, and that the Lightning port is actually smaller than a USB-C port. The 12.9-inch iPad Pro includes a fast charging feature that works when you plug a USB-C to Lightning cable into an Apple 29W, 61W, or 87W USB-C power adapter. JPMorgan analyst Rod Hall claims that in the iPhone 8, a laser scanner may either work alongside or replace the fingerprint scanner to unlock your phone. Also, the new L-shaped battery technology in the iPhone 8 will enable faster charging as well. This didn't settle well in the stomachs of many, so KGI Securities' analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is back to clear some of this confusion up (via MacRumors). The company plans to regulate the iPhone 8's power delivery systems using chips from Cypress and TI. It also allows your devices to charge. Kuo said this might not be a priority for Apple because transferring files via a cable is a "niche application" these days as most people sync data through the cloud. It will reportedly have a 5.8-inch OLED screen, and it could be called the "iPhone X".
