  • NH Women Arrested After One Injected the Other with Drugs While She was Giving Birth Cops

A Belmont woman accused of injecting her friend with heroin while she was in labor claims the court system is "ruining her life".

Concord police arrested the expectant mom earlier this week, six months after her son was born. She and the child were taken to a hospital, and the baby was placed in state custody, police said.

After she was unable to inject herself, she demanded her friend, 37-year-old Rhianna Frenette, give her heroin and methamphetamine before calling emergency services, reports CBS Boston.

Farruggia and Frennette were both arrested this week and charged with reckless conduct.

The judge accepted the states' recommendation for bail, holding Frenette on $25,000 cash bail, $20,000 for the felony, and $5,000 for the misdemeanor, until she is able to get an attorney. His condition is not immediately clear. She also mentioned that the house they were at was not a place they wanted the police to be called to because a lot of drug users resided there. She said Frenette had heroin and told her "it would take the edge off".

Frenette told the police that, upon entering the bathroom, she felt like she has stepped into a nightmare. She asked Frenette to come in, as she was screaming and crying and said, "I can't do this", referring to the labor pain. She said the ambulance was called after that. Instead of calling 911, she attempted to inject herself with narcotics, according to court documents released Wednesday.

Both women have criminal records; Farruggia also has been involved in "guardianship of a minor" cases, an individual parenting petition and a custody petition, going back to 2005.

Police stated in documents that the baby was able to breathe on his own, but was breathing very rapidly, which may have been caused by the mother's drug use.
