  • BJP supporters raise cutouts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as they celebrate winning seats in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday

As soon as the exit polls were out yesterday, Akhilesh Yadav told BBC that he was open to join hands with anyone to prevent the BJP from forming its government in the state.

Exuding confidence that his Samajwadi Party-Congress alliance will win the elections, Akhilesh Yadav indicated joining hands with other political parties to deny the BJP any room to control the state. For the SP, the result will decide whether Akhilesh Yadav is there face of the future while for Dalit messiah Mayawati, it will be the much-awaited moment to make a return to prominence.

The BSP, however, has said that it was not thinking of alliance with anyone to form the government.

Congress was reluctant to engage with ally Akhilesh Yadav's suggestion for a post-poll "secular" alliance, but said such a suggestion would be addressed only if no party was in a position to form a government.

And I have always respected the leader of the BSP by (mentioning) a relationship.

Tight security arrangements are in place for the counting of votes tomorrow for 403 assembly seat in Uttar Pradesh.

Like Mayawati, we can't rule this out.

Murray too strong for Verdasco
The odds looked stacked in Murray's favour heading into the contest, with the Brit winning 12 of their 13 previous meetings. ANDY MURRAY had an easier day at the office as he cruised into the final of the Dubai Championship.

The BJP and BSP, however, stitched an alliance about seven months after the polls on the basis of six monthly rotational formula.

The exit polls for Uttar Pradesh have predicted a massive gain for the BJP in the state and that Mayawati will be decimated.

Does this remark imply an admission of defeat from the Chief Minister? The Times Now - VMR poll predicts the BJP will get between 190 to 210 seats, the upper end of which will get the party past the half-way mark.

The assembly elections in 2002 saw SP emerging as the single largest party with 143 seats followed by the BSP with 98 and the BJP with 88 seats.

Here is a look at ABP Exit Poll Results showing a clear win for SP-Congress combine.

However, SP leader Naresh Aggarwal was non-committal about suggestions that the SP-Congress alliance would tie up with BSP to keep BJP away from the seat of power.

What actually happens in Uttar Pradesh will be clear on Saturday, March 11, when the Election Commission announces results for the Assembly Elections.
