  • Vince Young officially signing with CFL's Saskatchewan Roughriders

While nothing is final, Young's agent Leigh Steinberg tweeted Wednesday afternoon his client was en route to finalize a deal with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Now, sources familiar with the situation tell us Young and the CFL team are rounding 3rd in terms of getting a deal done and all that's left is for Vince to pick up a pen and sign on the dotted line.

Young has been out of the football spotlight the last couple years, but had a five-year run as one of the most well-known players in the sport. Between 2012-14, Young attended training camp with the Buffalo Bills, Green Bay Packers and Cleveland Browns, but failed to make the team out of camp.

After leaving the Titans, Young signed with the Eagles, appearing as a backup for one season. He announced his retirement in 2014, but Saskatchewan has kept him on its negotiation list in case he made a decision to resume playing.

I had eight months there and they were in dire straits. "We did the basics so well and the quality of both goals topped it". We needed someone to give us that bit of a lift in what was always going to be a tight game.

Young said he regretted some of the things he did, some of the things that happened to him when he was younger.

It seems Vince Young will make his football comeback in Canada. After starting 13 games in the 2006 season, he was named the NFL's offensive rookie of the year and was selected to appear in the Pro Bowl.

Should Young require inspiration, he need look no further than Kerry Joseph, who came north in 2003 after being released by the Seattle Seahawks following four seasons as a safety. "I always respect the game. because you know what players go through behind the scenes". He's obviously a tremendous talent, but his history of injuries can be troublesome if he's mulling an National Football League comeback. I'm so excited to play the game again. I got away from the game to clean up a bunch of stuff off the field.

"I'm here to compete", Young told the media on Thursday. "This was a good move for me because I still have the fire to play football".
