  • Connor faces up to eight years jail after the murder of a Balinese policeman

Australian woman Sara Connor has been sentenced to four years in an Indonesian jail after being found guilty of killing Bali police officer Wayan Sudarsa.

David Taylor, 34, the son of a vicar from Yorkshire, had admitted killing Wayan Sudarsa, 53, who was found with 42 wounds on the popular Kuta beach at about 3.30am local time on August 17 previous year.

The court had heard Ms Connor and Taylor were enjoying a night on the beach on 16 August when they became aware her handbag was missing, and separated to search for it.

The judge presiding over Ms Connor's case found her guilty of fatal group assault, according to Fairfax reports, rejecting her claim that she was merely trying to separate her boyfriend and Mr Sudarsa as they fought.

Taylor, 34, and originally from Halifax, was found guilty of hitting Wayan Sudarsa with a bottle on the popular Kuta beach last August.

Her British DJ boyfriend, David James Taylor, was convicted of the same offence and jailed for six years.

Taylor confessed his guilt from the beginning, admitting bashing the officer over the head with his own binoculars, a mobile phone and a beer bottle.

They argued she should have been charged with eliminating evidence after she cut up Mr Sudarsa's identification cards following the fight and burnt the clothes she and Taylor were wearing that night.

Erwin Siregar, a lawyer for Connor, said an appeal was being considered. Taylor said the violence was in self-defense.

Taylor, known as DJ Nutzo, was supported in court by his parents John and Janet Taylor from the UK.

He told the court that he did not realise the officer was was dead at the time, and that he had acted in self-defence after an altercation in which the...

Following the request, Connor was despondent, saying she had lost "all hope" of seeing her two young boys grow up.

"It seems she doesn't accept the sentence, but has not yet decided whether to appeal", Siregar said.

Prosecutors do not want the court to press ahead with the murder charge, conceding that the attack on Mr Sudarsa lacked an intent to kill.

They handed themselves into the Australian Consulate in Denpasar on August 19 after Connor received desperate phone calls from friends in Australia, telling her that her face was all over the news and that she was wanted for murder.
