Team Italy took on Venezuela on Monday night in a tiebreaker to decide which team would advance to the second round of the World Baseball Classic. Jair Jurrjens picked up the win after striking out five and holding Israel to one run on five hits over six innings.

Combine that with the fact that Venezuela's first game against Puerto Rico ended in the 7th inning due to the mercy rule used by the tournament (games are stopped after 7 innings if one team is 10 or more runs ahead; Venezuela lost 11-0), and you get a flawless mess of a situation.

It is safe to say that Los Angeles Dodgers' first baseman Adrian Gonzalez is not the biggest fan of the World Baseball Classic. Not only have there been some very good games early on, but there has been a playoff-type atmosphere during numerous matchups. Because the Italians walked off in the 9th inning with the victory before any outs were recorded, it technically does not count towards Mexico's "defensive inning" count, while the runs scored by Italy do count.

Virgin America adds flights to RDU
In December, Alaska Airlines closed a deal to buy Virgin America airlines, further boosting Alaska's West Coast footprint. Virgin's network operated as a point-to-point system built around the San Francisco and Los Angeles metro areas.

Venezuela then leveled in the top of the sixth inning with Ender Inciarte singling to right field. Going 1-2 in its first three matchups, with a run differential of -12, it took a late comeback win in a tiebreaker matchup against Italy for Venezuela to survive the first round of action.

"We qualified here basically because of an out that (Mexico) did not get (against Italy)", Venezuela manager Omar Vizquel said.

Both the official Twitter accounts of the World Baseball Classic and Major League Baseball stated that Mexico would advance to Monday's tiebreaker with Italy. "Way to set up a tournament", Gonzalez added, directing barbs at Major League Baseball.
