SNP: UK Government running scared of second independence vote

Britain's Prime Minister Theresa May arrives for a Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey in London, Britain March 13, 2017.
The Conservatives are "scared" of giving Scots the chance to vote on independence, the SNP's depute leader will claim today, writes Gareth McPherson.
On Friday, the Prime Minister will pledge to forge a "more united" nation as she begins the Brexit process.
If the Prime Minister refuses to engage on the terms of a referendum before Brexit takes place then she is effectively trying to block the people of Scotland having a choice over their future, which would be a democratic outrage.
The remarks upped the ante in a war of words over Scottish independence as Britain prepares for intense European Union exit talks.
Theresa May called for the country to come together to ensure "we can get the best deal for the whole of the United Kingdom". As I say, we've been joined together for over 300 years. "That's my job as prime minister and so for that reason I say to the SNP (Scottish National Party) now is not the time".
Scottish Conservative leader Ruth Davidson said Nicola Sturgeon's demand for a vote by the spring of 2019 would be rejected "conclusively". "Therefore we will not be entering into discussions or negotiations about a Section 30 agreement and any request at this time will be declined". In the context of the peers agreeing to allow the passage of the bill unamended, Britain gets posited on what the Brexit secretary, David Davis, has called "the threshold of the most important negotiation for our country in a generation".
But Mrs. May said her message to Ms Sturgeon was clear - "now is not the time". The Scottish Parliament next week will have its say.
Despite her refusal to openly rule it out, Sturgeon's aides insisted afterwards she had no plans to stage a so-called indicative, unofficial referendum.
The Scottish Greens, another pro-independence party, said May risked boosting support for independence if she wanted to veto a decision expected to be made by Scotland's devolved parliament next week.
Facing two years of what are likely to be hard talks for Britain as it leaves the European Union, Ms May wants to stamp her authority on a new agenda for the country but is struggling to fix deep divisions exposed by the Brexit vote.
Theresa May arguing it would divert attention away from getting a good deal with the European Union ...
I obviously welcome these commitments from the government, but it is clear that nationalists, of whatever stripe, both in Scotland and Northern Ireland, are interested in only one thing: their ideological obsession with 'independence'.
Brexit Secretary David Davis said Mrs May would formally invoke Article 50 by the end of March, allowing the United Kingdom to start talks on creating a "positive new partnership" with the EU.
"As a state that has built its reputation on its clean green environment, this plan recognises that clean energy is our future". The aim is also to create more self-sufficiency using local resources, while reducing dependence on coal from Victoria.
