  • Celebrities urge Turkish Airlines to send aid to hunger-stricken Somalia as famine looms

Thanks to several celebrity tweets, the call to spread awareness of the need for aid in Somalia and neighboring countries in East Africa is top of mind (or at least fingers) for those passing word on to their followers on social media.

A severe drought in Somalia has been causing deaths due to dehydration and cholera.

FYI, Turkish is the only major airline that flies to Somalia from the U.S. Kaepernick pleaded with the company saying in part "There's an impending starvation because of drought, politics, inaction of (non-government organizations) and lack of media attention".

Stiller emphasized that the campaign could draw significant media attention to the ongoing crisis and start a "snowball effect" pushing people to help. We can help create the change.

Twitter Accounts Hijacked With Nazi Messages
Twitter Counter's Ginor added: "We do not store users' Twitter account credentials (passwords) nor credit card information". Twitter Counter informed users that it has now cut off tweet posting through its system and changed its Twitter app key.

They are now rallying for the funds to fill those cargo planes on social media with the hashtag #LoveArmyForSomalia, which one of its leaders Jerome Jarre has described as a "movement from the heart".

National Football League quarterback Colin Kaepernick also took part in the social media campaign, posting an Instagram video where he asked his followers to share videos, to urge Turkish Airlines to send supplies to Somalia.

This world is not a flawless one by any stretch of the imagination, but glimmers of goodness like this one might just help make it a better place.

Kaepernick appealed on Thursday over Instagram for any help for Somalia. "Turkish airlines granted us an airplane to fly to Somalia". Where to get that food and water? They've even set up a GoFundMe page called Love Army for Somalia to take donations for those in need in the African country. The first flight is scheduled for takeoff on March 27, and so the Love Army has taken to GoFundMe to raise money to buy 60 tons of food, as well as water truck deliveries. We will make sure every cent goes to helping these people. The airline also said it would allow the group to ship food containers on its commercial aircraft to Somalia until the country's hunger crisis has ended.
