  • Weekend box office Beauty and the Beast has a monster opening

"Beauty and the Beast" is now estimated to break the all-time opening weekend record for a PG-rated film set past year by "Finding Dory" as it is now estimated to make $170 million in its opening weekend from 4,210 after grossing $63 million on its opening Saturday. According to new figures, the movie broke the previous record of $135 million for G- or PG-rated releases, which was held by 2016's "Finding Dory".

Outside of a few scenes, the movie is an nearly exact remake of the classic 1991 Disney animated feature, which went on to win Oscars for best original score and best original song.

That jumps the previous record holder, "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice", which opened to $166 million past year. A dazzling $22.8M in the United Kingdom gave BATB the highest grossing 3-day opening weekend ever for a PG title; and China opened to $44.8M for the biggest-ever Disney Live Action launch weekend. The film has also now passed the record set by "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" for the highest single-day total for a PG film.

Geno expected to join G-Men, agreement in place
Now, multiple reports have indicated that the Giants will also add former New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith to the mix. The 2015 season was supposed to be Smith's final chance to prove whether he was a respectable starting quarterback.

The film, directed by Oscar victor Bill Condon and based on the 1991 animated film, cost 160 million US dollars to make.

The film, which stars Emma Watson and Dan Stevens in the title roles, scored another $180 million internationally.

What makes it all the more surprising is that the studio is not lost for cash; Maleficent made $759 million worldwide, while Cinderella bought in $544 million and 2016's The Jungle Book made $967 million.
