  • One Killed And 15 Injured in Cincinnati Nightclub Shooting

At least one person was killed and 15 wounded during a "chaotic" nightclub shooting early Sunday in Cincinnati, police said.

Lt. Paul Neudigate, the assistant police chief, told NBC affiliate WLWT that numerous witnesses tried to get out of the club immediately after shots were fired, but he said investigators are interviewing those they've been able to identify. "It's going to be a long night for our homicide units to investigate." he added. No arrests had been made, and police said terrorism was not suspected.

The club has a history of gun violence, but was supposed to be checking patrons for weapons, according to city and police leaders.

He said the club has its own internal security that uses detection wands and pat-downs, but that police believe several firearms got inside.

Cincinnati's mayor says there is no evidence that this was a terrorist incident.

Shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday, someone heard the club's DJ call for security, then shots rang out, CNN affiliate WLWT reported.

"Saturday night, it is a very young crowd". Police do not have any suspects in custody, but are interviewing witnesses.

Capt. Williams said the shooting occurred inside Cameo, and that "chaos" ensued as people fled from the venue.

Bullets hit 16-people. Four policemen patrolling the parking lot rushed to render aid, but could not save the life of one victim, a 27-year old man.

City manager Harry Black said: "The conflict is believed to have begun between specific groups or individuals earlier in the day, escalating and ultimately leading to this tragedy occurring at the nightclub".

But the Orlando, Florida, nightclub massacre last June that killed 49 people and injured 53 was the exception, making it the worst mass shooting in modern US history.

Paul Neudigate also said that this is one of the largest shooting that he has witnessed in past 20 years of his working with the department.

Ohio Gov. John Kasich says on Twitter that he was "saddened to learn about last night's shooting" and that he was offering the state's assistance.

"Our prayers are with the victims and families of all of those involved".
