Perez asks for Democratic Party staff resignations

  • Tom Perez DNC Chair

Immediately following the hotly contested DNC chair race in February, the victor Tom Perez, a former labor secretary under President Barack Obama, asked the entire DNC staff to submit their letters of resignation by April 15, NBC News reported Tuesday.

After a hard fought battle - and a dramatic special election - former Labor Secretary Tom Perez was elected to be the new Chairman of the Democratic National Committee in late February. A year ago saw the abrupt resignation of then-DNC chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz as well as a presidential primary that many believed favored Hillary Clinton.

Democratic National Committee Chair Tom Perez is making some major personnel changes less than six weeks into office.

Now Perez, who spent most of his career in government and not politics, has to rebuild the party, take on President Donald Trump, tap into a unique moment of grassroots activism, and run and fund a partisan bureaucracy all at once.

As the DNC begins its search to fill key party positions, Perez has begun his chairmanship traveling the country in "active listening mode". "Current and future DNC staff will be integral to that effort", she added.

She replaced former Chair Rep.

Gaikwad was enraged at not getting a business class seat on the flight, despite being told that the airline only had economy seats.

A Democrat familiar with the request called it normal in leadership transitions, and said the same thing has happened during previous installations of new party chairs.

Perez was elected after a fractious race in which he beat Rep. Keith Ellison and several other candidates.

Perez told NBC News last Friday, "We're repairing a plane at 20,000 feet". "I was the Democratic Party chairman in California - it's a miserable job".

The view that the Democrats' problem is that they haven't moved far enough to the Left is not widely held among objective observers, but it apparently seems plausible to NBC.

Leah Daughtry, a co-chair of the committee, then reportedly asked every staff member to submit letters of resignation to allow Perez to make a "culture change".
