  • Derrick Rose out for Knicks season with torn meniscus in knee

According to an official statement released by the franchise on Sunday afternoon, New York Knicks' point guard Derrick Rose has encountered yet another major knee injury.

On Sunday, The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Rose will miss the rest of the 2016-17 season with a torn meniscus.

The Knicks also announced Rose will need arthroscopic surgery.

Ron Baker and Chasson Randle will split point guard duties as the Knicks close out their season. The former MVP is set to become a free agent in the offseason.

Prior to arriving in the "Big Apple", Rose notably spent his entire seven-year National Basketball Association career in the "Windy City" as a member of the Chicago Bulls.

Oil drops on rising US drilling, steady OPEC supply
USA production rose to 9.1 million bpd for the week ended March 10 from an average 8.9 million bpd for 2016 as shale producers added rigs.

Last season saw Rose play in 66 games, his most since 2010-11, but a fractured orbital bone sidelined him for 16 games.

After a strong start to his career which saw Rose winning league MVP in 2010/11 season, Rose has been pestered by knee problems for the better part of his National Basketball Association career, suffering a torn ACL in the 2011/12 season and then a torn MCL in the 2013/14 season. He notably made a mere 10 appearances in 2013-2014 after making just 39 appearances the year before. He has played in 64 out of the team's 76 games-84 percent-and has put up decent numbers: 18.0 points, 4.4 assists, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.3 turnovers per game.

But his contract expires after this season and teams will have to decide if Rose is worth another big deal given his injury history.

The 28-year-old will require surgery that should take six to eight weeks to heal, per Wojnarowski, which means many teams might not approach him until at least mid-May.
