Strong Storms Possible Late-Day Monday

The storm system, also a concern for far southern Arkansas, was expected to track into MS into the evening. If it stays on its current course, the worst of it will stay south of the Tri-Cities, but severe conditions may eventually affect Emporia and Waverly.

The National Weather Service's Storm Prediction Center said the storms are likely to cause significant wind damage near the Interstate 20 corridor in east Texas and Louisiana throughout the day and into Sunday night. The storms impacting this region are expected to move in our direction tonight, however, there will be some weakening over time. The storm mode should favor discrete development, transitioning into a squall line for eastern Texas-with isolated discrete cells developing ahead of the squall line just south of the warm-front. Areas further north will have mostly rain with some embedded thunder.

Winds will be breezy and changing with height in the atmosphere, therefore there is a threat for severe weather including damaging winds, hail and a few isolated tornadoes. This could be particularly risky due to the overnight nature of the system.

"The main threats for tomorrow are large hail and damaging winds", Guerrero said.
