But while We Happy Few hasn't yet been completed, its developers have already struck a deal for a movie adaptation of the game.

Gold Circle Films and DJ2 Entertainment have announced a partnership to create a movie adaptation of Compulsion Games' Early Access Survival game, We Happy Few. Developer Compulsion Games has partnered with studio dj2 for the movie.

"We Happy Few" is set in an eerie and isolated English town during an alternate-1960s, where the government has imposed a drug-induced happiness to mask gruesome violence and hide a nefarious mystery. It is also co-producing a Sonic the Hedgehog motion picture.

The proposal also includes strict new accountability provisions to ensure funds can only be spent on transportation. The sliding vehicle fee is similar to what owners already pay annually to the state Department of Motor Vehicles.

Compulsion Games' Guillaume Provost said the film companies came to the developer "with really solid ideas about how to adapt our game to film while retaining its menace, dark humor, and central themes". Video game movies often fall flat because they can't measure up to the memories players hold dear from when they first experienced Doom or Assassin's Creed or World of Warcraft or Street Fighter or [insert literally any game that's good but movie that's bad here]. One resident, free of the drug's effects, risks his life to learn why his home is a freaky open-air prison.

It sounds like early days for the We Happy Few movie, as the producers are now looking for writers for the script. Dj2 is also repped by APA.
