With Steve Bannon's place in his inner circle increasingly insecure, President Donald Trump is casting his chief strategist as a belated addition to a campaign team that was already on a warpath to the White House.

Top White House aides Steve Bannon and Jared Kushner met and agreed to "bury the hatchet" over their differences.

The unusual public, lukewarm support from the boss has Bannon's friends and advisers anxious he will soon be out of a job. Their domestic and global view is more digestible amongst the moderate Republicans whose support for Trump is not guaranteed but absolutely required in the legislative process.

"Many years", Trump said of their relationship back in August, when he made Bannon his campaign chief.

Trump acknowledged the deep disagreements on policy between Kushner and Trump and ordered them to "work this out". Spicer is apologizing for making an "insensitive" reference to the Holocaust in earlier comments about Syrian President Bashar Assad's use of chemical weapons. "The initial show, wow", Trump said, as Bannon heartily laughed.

Mr. Bannon is the rumpled hero of the anti-establishment populist base that drove Mr. Trump's Electoral College victory, but who appears to be losing clout.

Bannon, on the other hand, threw himself into his mission to establish Breitbart as the voice of populism in the United States.

Headlines called it a demotion, while the White House insisted it was simply a matter of Bannon no longer being on a list of regular attendees of NSC "principals committee" meetings.

Bannon has always been a controversial figure, having touted Breitbart as "the platform for the alt-right", which is closely aligned with white nationalism.

While President Trump also passed on this tradition, his daughter, Ivanka, tweeted Passover wishes to American Jews.

"Susan Rice operationalized the N.S.C. during the last administration", Bannon said in a statement released after his removal. In the aftermath of the ongoing holy war between Steve Bannon and Jared Kushner, Breitbart wrote some not-so-nice things about Trump's son-in-law. He appeared to be the architect of that deconstruction - with a direct line to the President.

Rumors continue to swirl around the West Wing that Chief Political Advisor to the President, Steve Bannon and Chief of Staff, Reince Priebus may be on the way out.

"He knows the region, knows the people, knows the players", Trump said in an interview.

Trump's former campaign chairman's foreign consulting work has become a headache for the White House. Now the ball's in Bannon's court.

The 36-year-old and 63-year-old have clashed repeatedly in recent weeks.

TRUMP: "I think we're doing very well on health care".

One of the most important truisms of the Trump presidency is that no one gets bigger than the boss. With Flynn out of the picture, they said, there was no need for Bannon to remain on the council.

Bannon reportedly resents Kushner for bringing figures associated with Democrats into the White House. Luckily for Kushner, family always wins.
