The world's oldest person has died in Italy at the age of 117, APA reports quoting BBC.

Morano's extraordinarily long life began on 29 November 1899.

She lived through two world wars and Italy's economic boom to the present day.

"She didn't suffer", said Morano's longtime doctor, Dr. Carlo Bava, who reported that she passed away very peacefully, while sitting in her rocking chair at home.

He said he had last visited Morano on Friday, and she had talked to him and held his hand as she normally did.

"She didn't suffer. I'm happy she didn't suffer but passed away that way, tranquilly", Bava said Saturday.

Morano, who celebrated her 117th birthday in November last year, officially became the world's oldest person following the death of 116-year-old Susannah Mushatt Jones in NY in May 2016.

"He told me, "Either you agree to marry me or I will kill you, '" Morano said". She reportedly worked until she was 75 years old, though Morano was said to have not left her apartment at any point in the last 20 years of her life.

"I didn't want to be dominated by anyone", Morano told the New York Times when she was 115.

At the age of 117 her life spanned three centuries, having been born in the 1800s.

She had cut down to just two eggs a day, and a few biscuits recently. "I was 26 years old". Though they separated in 1938, they remained married until he died in 1978.

Violet Brown, 117, of Jamaica, is now the oldest living person in the world, according to the Gerontology Research Group.

Bava had been her physician for nearly 25 years.

As a single woman, she made a living making jute bags and working in a hotel, the AP reported a year ago. Some doctors had warned her against eating three eggs daily, which she did for years, but she ignored their advice.
