What powertrain does the Volkswagen ID Crozz concept have? He said plans then call for vehicles designed from scratch for pure-electric propulsion with a range of 500 kilometers (300 miles) or more.

Power comes from a pair of electric motors delivering a combined 302 hp (225 kW) distributed 101 hp (75 kW) front and 201 hp (150 kW) rear good for a top speed of 112 miles per hour (180 kph). The I.D. Crozz's familiar but attractive crossover "coupe" shape is the first of the brand's I.D. concepts that appears ready to help VW achieve this goal.

The concept of electric cars is part of Volkswagen's new business strategy to take a leading position in the green transport niche by 2025. It offers on-demand all-wheel drive, but the bigger rear motor gives it more of a rear-drive feel.

The vehicle can reach top speeds of 180 kilometers (112 miles) and at a range of 500 kilometers (311 miles) with just a single charge. The battery sits in a solid metal cage beneath the passenger compartment's floor. The company further adds that the battery for the electric motor can be charged to 80 per cent of its energy capacity in 30 minutes using a fast-charging system. The auto also delivers a tight turning circle for its segment, at about 34.5 feet.

At 182.1 ins. (4,625 mm) inches in length, 74.5 ins.(1,892 mm) in width and 63.3 ins.

The ID Crozz is only concept, just like its predecessors.

He says it would cost $4-billion per year if brought in, and again raising the spectre of B.C. losing its AAA credit rating. A large part of cutting that waste, according to Horgan, is getting rid of what he calls Christy Clark's "LNG Fantasy Fund".

It follows on from the I.D. With a 109.2-inch wheelbase and an overall length of 182.1 inches, the I.D. Crozz is dimensionally similar to the 2018 Tiguan (which is only available with a longer wheelbase) that Volkswagen will sell here soon. Pilot autonomous system is slated to deliver full Level 3 autonomy, giving drivers the choice of doing the job themselves or relaxing while the vehicle takes over for extended periods.

At the same time, four laser scanners integrated into the roof are deployed to enable the I.D. Crozz to detect other road users in combination with a range of proximity sensing technology, including both ultrasonic and radar sensors as well as front stereo and side-view cameras.

To make its electric vehicles more viable, the German company has made "huge progress" in reducing production costs, Christian Senger, head of the VW marque's electric-car project, told reporters today in Shanghai, where the nameplate is unveiling its first battery-powered crossover.

The light patterns from the C-shaped LED daytime running lights and five-strip LED headlights merge to form electronic, moving "eyes", which greet you when you unlock the auto and also communicate with other road users when the vehicle is driving itself.

"If it was ever possible to make a 100-percent certain prediction of what the future will look like, here it is", said Klaus Bischoff, Volkswagen's design chief.

Even though this is still a concept, Volkswagen boss Herbert Diess said that the vehicle will go into production in 2020, just how numerous features - especially the autonomous systems - will be carried over is, however, unclear at this stage.
