  • Atlanta man, girlfriend disappear in Belize

His girlfriend, Francesca Matus, was scheduled to leave Belize as well and return to her native Toronto, while DeVoursney would head to Atlanta, where he'd been accepted to a local technical school to learn how to operate heavy equipment. He said autopsies were being conducted Tuesday.

Joseph Milholen, a friend of the couple's, went to Matus' home in the Corozal district on Friday to take her to the airport, he told police.

Milholen told police in Belize that Matus was not home when he got there and her auto was gone.

"She was a lovely woman ... fabulous neighbour", said Tony Tallon, who lived next door to Matus in Keswick, Ont.

He stated Drew's cycle was parked on Francesca's driveway and her white Isuzu Rodeo was missing. Both were said to be in an "advanced state of decomposition".

On Monday, a missing couple, former U.S. Marine Drew DeVoursney from Georgia and his Canadian girlfriend, Francesca Matus, 52, of Toronto, were found dead in Belize, in a sugarcane field, strangled to death. She worked as a property manager and was the mother of two adult sons.

"Francesca was an unbelievable human being, and it is a tremendous loss", she said. The missing couple were found dead near a sugar filed in Belize.Pictured, Francesca Matus.

"Their passports were where they left them", DeVoursney's mother, Char DeVoursney, said.

That included, the ministry said, notifying the US air command center in Qatar and speaking with the head of the USA military. He described the Turkish warning "as a notification, as opposed to coordination" with a trusted ally.

"Matus is described as 5′ 1" tall with shoulder-length brown hair and a slim build, and was last seen wearing white, denim short trousers and a white long-sleeve blouse, according to local media reports.

DeVoursney was a Marine veteran who enlisted after 9/11.

They were described by friends as being well-liked, according to a report by the Canadian Broadcasting Corp.

De Voursney was a former Marine from the Atlanta area, according US media reports. His mom stated that after leaving the service, her son overcame the "post traumatic stress disorder", he had suffered from.

His brother said it's been frustrating trying to coordinate resources from so far away.

"This is sickening", said DeVoursney from his home in Georgia. "This delayed by several daylight hours the search which as you know is always important", Milholen said, adding that WestJet's explanation was to invoke customer privacy.

She said her son was having trouble getting work in Belize, so he chose to return home.
