Joey Logano, Penske penalized following victory at Richmond

  • Joey Logano's Richmond win won't count towards NASCAR playoffs

NASCAR has penalized Joey Logano and Team Penske after Logano won Sunday's Monster Cup Series event at Richmond, resulting in the victory not counting toward an automatic playoff spot. We've lost a lot of regular points.

"With that being said, it wasn't like it was a big thing, but the rule is written and it's black and white".

"Apparently, every now and again you may, but you have to find that edge and get right to it, and it's a fine line". But after NASCAR took the No. 22 Penske Ford back to its Research and Development Center in North Carolina for a thorough technical inspection as it does to every winning auto, officials found the rear suspension didn't conform to its rules.

Speaking to SiriusXM NASCAR Radio (as transcribed by NBC Sports,) Gordon said the organization has opened an investigation to learn how a pinion angle shim wasn't in contact with its mating surface at all times, the technical reason the sanctioning body stripped Logano of his five playoff points, 25 championship points and suspended Gordon for two races. The differences are that NASCAR still declares the winning driver the victor (the sanctioning body has always been loathe to name anyone a race victor who didn't take the checkered flag) and that vacated victories in other sports usually take place down the road, not within the season now being contested. "Race Engineer Miles Stanley will serve as Joey Logano's crew chief this weekend at Talladega Superspeedway, while Greg Erwin will help call race strategy on Sunday".

NASCAR cited that the violation came under Section 20 of the NASCAR Rule Book.

Topeka police said Bulmer was exiting his vehicle to speak to the child when the child fell into the pond. Police said he'd wandered away from a parent, who was looking for him at the time of the rescue.

Penske still has the option to appeal the penalty. If you go a little bit over, we're sitting with what we're talking about today. The crew chief suspension can range from one to three races and the points penalty can range from 10 to 40 points.

Logano and the No. 22 team was fined 25 owner and driver points.

Keselowski finished second to his teammate at Richmond and his auto was also taken for a further inspection.

Logano was adamant that swerving had nothing to do with the penalty process. That's what Logano says hurt the most. "I drive the vehicle". "It has nothing to do with swerving".
