White House dismisses chief usher, 1st woman to hold post

She was previously the general manager at the Ritz Carlton in Pentagon City, just outside Washington.

Reid was the White House's ninth usher and the second African-American.

"We very grateful for her service and wish her the very best", an official said.

The White House chief usher has traditionally been a job which boasts a long tenure with employment of the residence staffer remaining in place during changes of presidential administrations.

While Sanders said it wasn't uncommon for staffs to transition between administrations, chief ushers typically hold their positions for longer tenures and through different presidencies. The last one that people interviewed for this story recall was in 1993, when the Clintons fired an assistant usher who had a friendly phone conversation with Barbara Bush that was thought to be inappropriate.

Officials at the White House have not released any details about Angella Reid's dismissal. "If there is a very compelling reason for the dismissal, the White House needs to tell the public" he said. "The permanent staff averages 25 years - one staffer was there for 50 years".

Well, at least she no longer has to worry about Trump trying to turn everything in the residence a lurid gold color.

Douglas Brinkley, a presidential historian at Rice University, hypothesized that Reid was sacked over Trump's paranoia. Reid was hired under President Obama in October 2011. But when her colleagues arrived at work today, they were told that Reid's time at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue was over. Reid followed Admiral Stephen W. Rochon, the first black usher, after he left for a job at the Department of Homeland Security. This is a job that usually survives administrations.

"Knowing Angella, I doubt seriously that she would have done something herself to cause this", Rochon. A White House that's seeking to make sexual assault and Caesarean sections fall under pre-existing conditions?
