Sharapova more disappointed to lose early than to Bouchard

  • The plan should eat into the country’s jet fuel exports which rose to a record of 7,41,000 tonnes in March according to preliminary government data

I wanted to do it for myself, but also for all of these people.

It was world No 60 Bouchard's first ever victory over five-time Grand Slam victor Sharapova, whom she believes should be banned from tennis for life.

Sharapova needed to save two break points in the fifth game of the first set but broke Bouchard in the sixth with a brutal forehand victor to lead 4-2. Sharapova has since returned to the WTA rankings, where she is now 258.

When asked about Bouchard's comment two weeks ago in Stuttgart, Sharapova told reporters: "I don't have anything to say - I am way above that".

After Bouchard's 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 win over Sharapova in Madrid, the feisty Canadian referred to Sharapova's return as a "so-called comeback", and posted a victory picture to Instagram simply with the words: "How bow dah?!". I think it's always great to be the person that's kind of in control of your actions while everything around you is moving in a different way, " she said. In the final set she held triple-break point in the fourth game, only for Bouchard to hold, and held a 40-15 on her own serve but was broken in the ninth game.

Sharapova will learn on May 16 whether she will receive a wildcard for the French Open, the year's second Grand Slam which she won in 2012 and 2014. That is what is going to make me a better player.

For now Bouchard is continuing her open condemnation of Sharapova while the former world No. 1 tries to take the high road - but that won't last forever.

Bouchard isn't the only WTA player upset Sharapova has been granted wild-card entries to major tournaments rather than having to build up ranking points herself at smaller tournaments and qualifying events after serving a drug ban.

Bouchard would eventually re-establish her advantage and was able to serve out the match, sealing a 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 win. The Danish player had not played well in the first round against Niculescu, and on Monday she confirmed her bad moment.

McCaffrey will have one more practice with the team before having to miss some of the Panthers OTA because Stanford is still in school.

"I feel like it's still a learning experience, and it's still just getting back in the groove and understanding what I need to work on and improve, " she said.

The 60 ranked Bouchard's joy was clear for all to see as she jumped for joy at the end of a sapping final set.

Maria Sharapova celebrates after winning a point during her second-round match against Eugenie Bouchard at the 2017 Mutua Madrid Open. I had too many mistakes in the second set.

However, adversity brought out the best in the 5-time Grand Slam champion as Sharapova found the precision to match her power in the second set, reeling off 4 straight game from 2-2 to level at one set all.

She later said she still believes Sharapova should not have been allowed to play again. Every match at this point is important.

"They were players I don't normally speak to and I got a lot of texts from people in the tennis world that were just rooting for me".

Bouchard's win is all the more remarkable because she hadn't managed to win a match in three-and-a-half months before she entered Madrid.

The two shook hands at the net after Bouchard made a big on-court statement so soon after aiming verbal volleys at Sharapova.

Bouchard then remained on the front foot when she appeared for her media conference: choosing to detail how many good luck messages she had received from unlikely sources prior to the match.
