  • A climber scales the Golden Gate Bridge

According to a media report, two boys, Peter Teatime and Tommy Rector posted a video of themselves climbing the bridge in San Francisco.

"It was super breathtaking", 18-year-old climber Peter Teatime of Wisconsin said.

As if standing at the height of 746ft wasn't enough of a thrill, the daring duo chose to dangle their entire bodies over the edge of one of the bridge's towers, with only their fingertips stopping them from making the long fall to the ground below. The actions of these individuals did not harm the structure, nor could they have harmed the structure.

"But for any explorer the Golden Gate Bridge is an absolute must-do, as it's the tallest bridge in the U.S. and such an iconic structure", he told Daily Mail.

The pair climbed 30 feet up the bridge's vertical steel suspended ropes, then onto one of the span's main cables and then to the top of the north tower. The video follows the friends as they scaled a series of stairs, performed somersaults and back flips and hung their bodies off the bridge.

"The Golden Gate Bridge is not an amusement park ride", said Denis Mulligan, general manager of the Golden Gate Bridge Highway and Transportation District.

He said of the climb: 'We didn't do any preparation for the climb, nor have any safety equipment, we just had to focus our minds on the cables, while trying to dodge security cameras.

Unsurprisingly, San Francisco officials aren't taking news of the stunt lightly. Two teens recently did a unsafe stunt by climbing the Golden Gate Bridge without any safety gear and the video which has now gone viral is terrifying and risky.

Mulligan and Golden Gate Bridge Patrol Captain Lisa Locati said in their Tuesday news conference that the young men put themselves and the drivers traveling below at risk.

A YouTube video of a daring stunt on the Golden Gate Bridge is going viral.

Locati said the bridge's security system was "not created to protect thrill-seekers from harming themselves". And he tells ABC 7 that he'd been happy to offer his consulting services to the bridge authority or Homeland Security to help them prevent other people from doing what he did.
