  • Michael Clarke on CA's IPL stand David Warner Steve Smith will continue playing in India

During a press conference to mark the collaboration between Michael Clarke Cricket Academy and newly-opened Aditya School of Sports, the 36-year old backed the crème de la crème of Australian cricket to resist Cricket Australia's (CA) offer.

"I don't think it's fair for me to comment on something I don't know enough about".

'In the coming weeks, CA and states will be making contract offers to players.

Cricket Australia chief executive James Sutherland had warned that the rebelling players led by Warner and captain Steve Smith may find themselves without employment if they refuse to the contracts that CA will offer them.

The reproduction of the story/photograph in any form will be liable for legal action.

"He's gone into bat for the players, though, and you have got to give him credit for that".

The 30-year-old further noted that cricket's marketplace offer both global and domestic players plenty of opportunities to play T20 matches elsewhere if CA maintained its hard-line stance.

CA says the move is aimed at minimising injuries and avoid the controversial resting of players such as Smith in Sri Lanka and Starc and Hazlewood in South Africa a year ago.

"The players at the moment take 20 per cent of all revenue so having 80 cents in the dollar is enough to invest in the future of the game".

CA is adamant it flagged the need for a mediation clause last November and that its position on a range of issues, such as payroll tax, has been misrepresented and/or misunderstood by the ACA.

"The board and CA in general have been frustrated by the fact there has been no negotiation".

Players are hinting at an Ashes boycott in the wake of an explosive email sent by Cricket Australia that told players they would not be paid beyond June 30 unless they accept a proposed overhaul of player remuneration.

"That includes the players going on a dip with Cricket Australia if revenue falls for whatever reason".

As part of the expiring MoU, players earned through the fixed sharing model between 24.5 and 27 per cent annually dependent on the performances of the Australian teams, while 26 per cent of net revenue from the 2015 World Cup went to the players' union.

CA has given players the green light to speak their minds during ongoing pay talks, insisting they respect all views.

Sutherland has accused the ACA of having "unfairly placed current players in a hard position". CA is also of the opinion that mediation is only called when negotiations break down.

Starc, however, made a decision to sit out of RCB's bench this season in a bid to prepare for the International Cricket Council (ICC) Champions Trophy which starts in England from June 1.

"There is incoherence and aggression in what we have experienced at the negotiating table from CA", ACA chief executive Alistair Nicholson said in a statement Sunday. Australia, now ranked No3 in the world Test rankings, play a two-match red-ball series in Bangladesh in August.
