Syria denies crematorium charge as talks restart

22 May, 2017, 16:47 | Author: Essie Rivera

The allegation of mass killings came as President Donald Trump weighs options in Syria, where the U.S. launched cruise missiles on a government air base last month after accusing Assad's military of killing scores of civilians with a sarin-like nerve agent. "We now believe that the Syrian regime has installed a crematorium in the Saydnaya prison complex which could dispose of detainees' remains with little evidence".

"Yesterday the USA administration pulled out a new Hollywood screenplay disconnected from reality, accusing the Syrian government of having, according to the administration, built a crematorium at the Saydnaya prison".

Numerous bodies are burned in a crematorium "to cover up the extent of mass murders taking place", Acting Assistant Secretary for Near Eastern Affairs Stuart Jones said.

Syria's foreign ministry called the USA accusation a "Hollywood story detached from reality".

Gallant reportedly made the remark a day after reports emerged about Assad's regime possibly using a crematorium at a prison near Damascus as a venue for mass killings.

The Trump administration is a willingness to respond to these massacres done by the Syrian government which also included the use chemical weapons and other deadly killer agents to wipe out some of the many places. "And these atrocities have been carried out seemingly with the unconditional support from Russian Federation and Iran".

During his briefing, Jones presented photographs showing some evidence of the building believed to be a crematorium. The images, which started to be taken in 2013, do not prove the building is a crematorium, but show construction consistent with such use.

Citing "credible sources" and data gathered by nongovernmental organizations, Jones stated that between 2011 and 2015, the Assad regime abducted and detained as many as 117,000 people and killed as many as 50 detainees a day at Saydnaya.

Jones said the information came from credible humanitarian agencies and from the United States "intelligence community" and that as many as 50 people per day are thought to be hanged at Saydnaya.
