Trump in Bethlehem to meet Palestinian president

In his address Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told President Trump he welcomed the U.S.'s change of direction in dealing with Iran stating "we can thwart Iran's unbridled ambition to become a nuclear weapon state".

The visit raised questions about whether the USA would indicate the site is Israeli territory.

Trump's stop in the Holy Land is marked with several historic firsts. His wife, Melania, daughter Ivanka and son-in-law, Jared Kushner, accompanied him.

Ivanka, who converted to Judaism on marrying her husband, was dressed demurely in black and wore her hair partially covered by a small hat.

Trump pressed his right hand against the wall and closed his eyes, seemingly in prayer. The Palestinians also claim east Jerusalem as their capital and previous USA administrations have said the area's fate must be decided through negotiations.

During his first trip overseas as president, he hailed the "unbreakable bond" between Israel and the US. They rightly recognized that there was no point in a dialogue with a terrorist organization dedicated to Israel's destruction.

"Instead of ignoring or downplaying the role of faith - as many politicians have mistakenly done throughout the years - our president has instead honored its unparalleled influence on the hearts and minds of believers to advance the cause of peace", the Rev. Dr. Samuel Rodriquez, president of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference, said in a statement.

JERUSALEM (AP) - President Donald Trump enthusiastically embraced Israel's leader. Trump asked Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu what protocol was as they approached the dais before delivering their speeches. An Israeli TV station quoted an American as telling the Israelis that the wall is not in Israeli territory, enraging Trump's Israeli hosts.

Israeli officials say they are largely in the dark about what ideas Trump might present for peace or what concessions he may demand.

"The terrorists and extremists and those who give them aid and comfort must be driven out from our society forever", Trump said.

Trump also expressed optimism that he can help facilitate peace between Israel and Palestinians.

In my visit to Saudi Arabia, I met with many leaders of the Arab and Muslim world, including King Salman, who treated us so beautifully, and really wants to see great things happen for the world. Israel controls the wall, the nation's top tourist site, and treats it like Israeli territory, routinely holding solemn state ceremonies there.

He said the summit in Saudi Arabia "had no political value, and will bear no results". But complicating any deal is the adjacent hilltop site revered by Muslims as the "Noble Sanctuary" and Jews as the "Temple Mount".

But none of this appears to be straining the U.S. -Israel alliance.

Both sides have been intensively lobbying Trump.

Or does it? The White House last week published a map of Trump's tour in a video which infuriated Israelis by showing the nation's pre-1967 borders, excluding East Jerusalem, the West Bank, Golan Heights, and the Gaza strip.

Mr Dermer raised his hand to his head, covering his eyes and then moving his hand through his hair in awkwardness and scratching his eyebrow before composing himself and turning his attention back towards Mr Trump. No explanation was given for the dateline.
