Inaugurating the longest 9.15 km bridge over a river in Assam, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday made a veiled attack on the previous Congress-led UPA government, accusing it of delaying its construction even as he named the bridge after legendary singer Bhupen Hazarika. "That has now been inaugurated today (Friday)", Modi said while speaking after inaugurating the Dhola-Sadiya bridge over river Lohit, a tributary of river Brahmaputra - constructed at a cost of Rs 950 crore that will connect Assam with eastern Arunachal Pradesh.

It also reduces the distance from Rupai (NH-37) in Assam to Meka/Roing (NH-52) in Arunachal Pradesh by 165km, cutting down the travel time from six hours to just one hour. The Congress leader alleged that Modi government is "Suit Boot Ki Sarkar' and has failed to bring ache din for the farmers across the country".

The Prime Minister laid the foundation stone of Indian Council of Agricultural Research's (ICAR) third Indian Agriculture Research Institute (IARI) at Gogamukh, 419 km east of the state capital.

Addressing a media conference, Congress MP and former union minister Kamal Nath flayed the Modi government for spending Rs 2,000 crore on the celebrations of its three years in office when the economy was in a shambles.

Modi's trip to Assam, during which he will deliver a public address later in the day, rounded off a week of festivities and briefings to highlight his government's achievements. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will depart Monday for a four-nation tour of Europe that will include strategic talks with historic ally Russian Federation and with key trading partner Germany.

"The future of this country is dark from the economic point of view and from the social point of view".

"Our lawmaker at that time had requested for the bridge and Atal ji's government had ordered a feasibility study". He has put up a poster on the rear of his vehicle (bearing registration number KA20 9388) announcing: "On the occasion of the fourth year of the Narendra Modiled BJP government, the autorickshaw fare has been reduced to Re 1 for up to 5km".

Modi will then depart for Spain for further business talks in a roundtable with CEOs, India's foreign ministry said in a statement.

"Let us all commit ourselves for the next five years to take the country to new heights". This bridge will provide 24/7 connectivity in the region where people were earlier dependent on ferries. He said his Government is working towards boosting prosperity and welfare of the people in the North-East through this "panch-tatva".
