The G7 summit has ended in Sicily following two days of discussions regarding the state of the world economy, foreign policy, climate change, and other major global issues.
The U.S. broke from the other six nations in a joint statement issued at the summit's conclusion, saying America is reviewing its climate policies while the other G-7 members remain committed to the Paris agreement.
According to Axios, three sources confirmed Trump's decision, although the president claimed via Twitter that he will make a "final decision" next week.
"I think we hit a home run no matter where we are", Trump said, before boarding his plane back to Washington.
"I was sitting in on some of the discussions in Brussels, by the way, where climate change came up and the President was open, he was curious about why others were in the position they were in, his counterparts in other nations", Mattis told CBS show Face the Nation. Without mentioning Trump by name, she referenced the conversations that the seven leaders present had surrounding the 2015 Paris climate deal, which Trump has not agreed to uphold, as "six against one" and "very hard, not to say very unsatisfactory".
And while the news media spouted headlines that Trump aides said his thoughts on climate change were "evolving", he was not swayed by the arguments from Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany, France's President Emmanuel Macron and others who are anxious about the USA pulling out of the global agreement signed by almost 200 nations.
