Sculptor Erects Statue of a Pug Peeing on the "Fearless Girl"

"Fearless Girl" was installed in March by a financial firm as a statement about the lack of women on the boards of big US corporations.

Arturo Di Modica, the Italian-born artist responsible erecting the Charging Bull in 1989, has previously called the Fearless Girl an "advertising trick" by State Street.

NY artist Alex Gardega calls that a publicity stunt - so he created his own statue. It makes the "Bull" a "Bully"-and that ruins the original artists vision for his work: a symbol of progress and defiance in and of itself".

Gardega planned to leave his dog statue next to "Fearless Girl" but removed it after people began throwing and kicking the sculpture.

In one of her few interviews on the subject, Fearless Girl sculptor Kristen Visbal has disagreed with Di Modica's interpretation, noting that the girl is at a "respectful distance" from the bull. In fact, they reached levels equivalent to the mentions achieved during the week when New York Mayor Bill De Blasio announced that the city had issued a permit for "the Fearless Girl" statue to remain on Wall Street for another year.

But now a NY artist has taken a stand against the new arrival by adding a third statue - a urinating pug.

Meant to symbolize the need for more women working in finance, a historically male-dominated field, Fearless Girl has also been criticized as a symbol of corporate feminism because its installation was funded by State Street Global Advisors, an investment firm.

The urinating dog sparked controversy on social media, where many people slammed Gardega's temporary addition to the Bowling Green square in Manhattan's Financial District.

"It's really bad, I don't like it", Di Modica told The Post by phone from his home in Sicily. "My piece is not without a sense of humor but I do feel for Arturo and the integrity of his art. There is plenty of room for 'Fearless Girl.' It just interferes with another artist's work/vision".

"I'm a pretty happy person, not seething or angry and certainly not anti-feminist". Only three short hours after displaying his creation Monday, Gardega was forced to take it down.

The artist even intimated that he made the dog especially sloppily just to stick it to his defiant girl.

"I took it [down] to save its life", he told Moneyish. "Fearless Girl was created to stand as a reminder that having more women in leadership positions positively contributes to overall performance and strengthens our economy".
