Venus Williams has moved forward through her first two rounds of competition at the French Open, under the watchful eye of sister Serena in the stands.

"She's going to call me "favorite aunt, '" Venus Williams said".

Venus, who made her debut here in 1997 and was runner-up to Serena in 2002, next faces Kurumi Nara, who beat 15-year-old American Amanda Anisimova 3-6, 7-5, 6-4.

Venus won her second-round match, 6-3, 6-1, while beginning the most recent installment of the annual tournament as the 10th seed.

Nara had a slow start to the match as she was overwhelmed by the precise and powerful groundstrokes by Williams, as seen in the opening game when the American had a 0-40 lead to begin the match with.

However, Serena has remained in the spotlight as of late and not because of her 23 grand slam singles titles.

"I always tell people that you have to enjoy what you're eating". Looking confident and in red-hot form, Williams broke serve to love once again to be just a game away from winning the match.

During her on-court interview, Kvitova addressed Novak, her family and others in her guest box, saying: "Thank you for everything you helped me through (in) this hard time".

"I don't know yet, that's the problem", she said, laughing. She also said she still did not know the gender of her baby.

Serena revealed her pregnancy earlier this year when she took to Snapchat to post a photo of herself with the caption "20 weeks", but recently revealed the photo was a mistake and she didn't mean to make it public. Kvitova threw her racket in frustration after double-faulting on match point, but the players warmly embraced at the net. "I know he is, from upstairs", Johnson said.

"It was really hard for me previous year", Nadal said. You'd still like Venus to clean up a combined 74 unforced errors, but with her return ability and the fact she's produced eight breaks, it hasn't come back to bite her yet.

Serena Williams is at the French Open, after all - but as a spectator, not a competitor.

And as if things aren't already tough enough for the 29-year-old, things are just about to get even tougher from Wimbledon until the end of the season, where she will have to defend a huge mountain of points.

It was not a good day, though, for Ekaterina Makarova, conqueror of top seed Angelique Kerber in round one but knocked out 6-2 6-2 by Lesia Tsurenko in round two.
