Jury re-watches 2 key videos in police shooting of motorist

Paulsen reminded the jury of the recorded statements on Monday, saying they should consider them accurate.

Meanwhile, supporters of Castile also gathered Tuesday at the St. Paul courthouse where the jury was deliberating.

The mother of a black man fatally shot by a Minnesota police officer last July says her son shouldn't have died the way he did. In his interview with the BCA, Yanez said, "I know he had an object.it was dark".

An attorney for a Minnesota police officer charged in the shooting death of a black motorist past year says the officer "did what he had to do".

Conviction of the officer's manslaughter charge requires the jury to find Yanez guilty of "culpable negligence", which the judge described in jury instructions as gross negligence with an element of recklessness.

Yanez killed Castile after pulling him over for a broken taillight July 6.

But earlier Monday, prosecutors insisted that officer Jeronimo Yanez never saw a gun and had plenty of options short of shooting Philando Castile, a 32-year-old school cafeteria worker they say was never a threat. It also recorded statements Yanez made to a supervisor soon after the shooting in which he said variously that he didn't know where Castile's gun was and that he told him to keep his hand off it.

Yanez's backup testified that Yanez told him he saw a gun. "This is a classic example of why, if you are a user of drugs, even marijuana, you're not allowed to have a gun", Gray said.

A prosecutor is arguing that a Minnesota police officer never saw a gun before he shot and killed a black motorist a year ago during a traffic stop.

Ramsey County District Judge William H. Leary III on Tuesday granted the jury's request to view again videos of the traffic stop, as captured by the dashboard camera in Yanez's squad auto, and the Facebook Live post of the shooting's bloody aftermath filmed by Castile's girlfriend, Diamond Reynolds, who was in the passenger seat next to him.

Yanez, who is Latino, testified last week that he saw a gun and that the driver, who was black, ignored his commands not to pull it out.

According to the Star Tribune, Paulsen showed the jury a picture of Castile's right index finger-his trigger finger-which was grazed with a bullet wound.

Paulsen also argued that any applied negligence and any claimed fault on the victim's part isn't a defense.

Closing arguments were expected at midmorning in the trial of police Officer Jeronimo (yeh-RON'-ih-moh) Yanez.

Clarence Castile, uncle of Philando Castile, leaves the Ramsey County Courthouse in St. Paul, Minn. on Monday, June 12, 2017. Castile disclosed he was carrying a licensed handgun. They were to present their closing argument later Monday.

After he shot Castile, Yanez is heard on squad vehicle video telling a supervisor variously that he didn't know where Castile's gun was, then that he told Castile to get his hand off it.

Upon request, both the dashcam video and Diamond Reynolds' Facebook Live broadcast were replayed for the jury. Closing arguments are set to begin on Monday.

The trial was capped by Yanez's first public words on the case since Castile died.
