  • Gunman who shot top GOP congressman had history of arrests

The FBI has swarmed the IL home of James Hodgkinson, combing through evidence trying to understand what could've led the 66-year-old man to the shooting rampage at a Republican congressional baseball practice.

Representatives on both teams made a decision to go forward with the game, which got underway at 7 p.m.

Scalise, R-La., was shot in the attack Wednesday morning at a baseball park in the D.C. suburb of Alexandria, Va. She said her estranged husband had sold nearly everything from his business before leaving. Roll Call reported that the Alexandria Police, the Capitol Police, the FBI, and the ATF released a joint statement, which said, "ATF has conducted traces on these weapons and has determined that both were purchased by the shooter from federal firearms licensees". Before the game, all players bowed their heads for a moment of silence and prayer to honor Scalise. Police shot Hodgkinson, who later died.

But it's my hunch that Hodgkinson was not part of any broader movement.

Sue Hodgkinson, who works at a tax firm, said she and James didn't see much of each other from January to March because of her job. Now we know where he went.

Following Stock's death, Hodgkinson and his wife then took in another girl in 2002, but they lost custody after he reportedly abused her, the NY Post reports.

While no motive has been established for the attack, authorities are considering Hodgkinson's political beliefs as a possible driver, according to the Post. Sen. Bernie Sanders in 2016.

"I yelled, 'Quit shooting toward the houses, '" he said.

According to the Daily Beast, a police report from the daughter's friend, Aimee Moreland, said the adopted daughter hated living with Hodkinson and tried to escape countless times. "Pray for Steve!" Trump wrote on Twitter.

He also wrote frequent letters to his hometown newspaper, the Belleville News-Democrat, which published almost two dozen letters between 2010 and 2012, many of which included complaints about the same theme: income inequality.
