  • Veteran airline executive Richard Anderson will replace Moorman as CEO officials said

Anderson, 62, who also headed the former Northwest Airlines in the Twin Cities, will succeed current Amtrak CEO Wick Moorman, who joined the company in September 2016.

Amtrak's CEO is being replaced.

"Richard brings to Amtrak his experience running one of the largest global commercial air carriers".

"There's a lot more demand for passenger rail today".

Anderson has shown a knack for hard jobs and unconventional risks.

Anderson also worked in the legal division at Continental Airlines and was a former country prosecutor. Irked by rising fuel prices in 2012, Delta announced it had purchased an oil refinery near Philadelphia to produce its own fuel.

In an interview, Moorman said that being able to attract a leader of Anderson's caliber signals that, "Amtrak has a great future ahead of it". "Richard stuck his hand up", Moorman said.

Supreme Court Agrees To Hear Wisconsin Gerrymandering Case
The Wisconsin case seems promising because the lower court said it found a way to measure the partisan nature of the districts. The court will be pressed with the responsibility of deciding if partisan gerrymandering violates the Constitution.

"This is particularly unacceptable given the enormous payments made by our states to Amtrak to assure the state of good fix of Penn Station", Cuomo said. Those include the Trump administration's proposal to slash the railroad's federal subsidy, and a rash of track failures at New York's Penn Station that have caused widespread delays and forced a summerlong program of fix work that has angered local politicians.

Amtrak is making emergency repairs this summer at Penn Station on its aging infrastructure and the ripple effects of that construction is causing widespread service disruptions and delays at the transportation hub and on routes along the East Coast.

Anderson called it an honor to join Amtrak.

Anderson will take over as president and CEO on July 12.

Anderson was named Aviation Week's Person of the Year in 2015. The airline emerged from bankruptcy early in his tenure.

The railroad on Monday named Richard Anderson as its top executive, putting a leader known for innovation and customer service in charge of a government operation struggling to keep up with congestion and crumbling infrastructure. He assumed Delta's top job in 2007 and led the company through a merger with Northwest Airlines in 2008.During his tenure, Delta outpaced its peers in on-time performance, grew rapidly in top business markets such as NY and acquired stakes in airlines in the United Kingdom, China, Mexico and Brazil. From 2001 to 2004, he was CEO of Northwest Airlines.
